Monti is one of Rome’s most famous neighborhoods and the oldest in town, already densely populated at Roman times, when it comprised the popular quarter known as “Suburra”. The name “Monti” recalls the hills – the Viminal, the Esquiline and the Quirinal – over which it extends and where Rome’s historic core was founded, hills that still today define its profile, made up of staircases and uphill streets.
Just a few steps from the Colosseum and the Forums, between Via Cavour and Via Nazionale, Monti is a lively neighborhood teeming with life, well-known for its narrow cobbled alleys, artisan shops and trendy bars.
This area is much attended by young people, but not just them, who enliven it during the day but especially by night thanks to its many slow-food restaurants, pubs and wine-bars. Shopping enthusiasts love it for its vintage shops, that sell from clothes to jewels as well as antiques shops and art galleries.
